About the Event

Join Marjorie Spitz, Balance Integration's Small Business Division President for a lively and interactive discussion.

Continuing our conversations about growing a small business, this session will feature employment attorney and mediator Nance L. Schick. Together we will discuss how to avoid costly surprises when hiring workers (e.g., freelancers, independent contractors, interns, vendors), conflict resolution and how to otherwise minimize risk and stay out of court. Among the questions she will answer are:

> Hiring non-employees to build your business

     - How can you be certain independent contractors are not misclassified employees and thus a fineable action by a government agency?

     - What can you offer contractors and vendors vs staff (e.g., equipment, health insurance, office space, reimbursements, training)?

> Are you responsible for creating a non-hostile work environment—from discrimination to sexual misconduct?

> Intellectual property: Who owns it?

> Can you use your client’s logo, case study or otherwise for marketing purposes?

> Pathways and options to resolving conflict should it arise.

Nance is the Chief Resolution Officer at Third Ear Conflict Resolution and author of DIY Conflict Resolution. For the past 17.5 years, she has worked with high-risk businesses from single-shareholder corporations to the world’s largest corporations in their respective industries. After pursuing a successful career in sport management, including as a minor league hockey agent, she chose to focus full-time on helping managers and small business owners stay out of court and build their conflict resolution skills—so everyone has a better work experience.

Upon registration you will receive Zoom info.
